The Chapter One monthly creative writing workshop launched last year at David’s Bookshop to great success. This year, the Chapter One creative writing workshops return on the 9th of April at our new home Hitchin Lavender Farm.

Writing can be a wonderful and fulfilling creative practice, but it can also be lonely, and writers, like all creatives, can be prone to self doubt and endless critical judgement.

Writers thrive when they have the opportunity to share their experiences, have exposure to different styles and genres and gain access to support from peers and professional writers who offer quality constructive and non judgemental feedback.

The Chapter One creative writing workshop is friendly and all writers will have the opportunity to share their work if they wish, by reading out a short extract of what they’re working on. Or if you prefer, just come along, meet new friends and listen.

This aim of this workshop is to empower, motivate and teach you new skills and tools that you can use in your writing to attain a greater sense of achievement and wellbeing in your creative practice.

Each workshop will be facilitated by John Harrigan, who has over twenty eight years of experience working as a writer for theatre and film. His work has been commissioned by Arcola Theatre, the Institute of Contemporary Arts, Secret Cinema, Camden People’s Theatre and Conway Hall.

He has facilitated arts based workshops for the Royal College of Art, Wilderness Festival, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and the BBC amongst others and he is a co-founder of the Weaponized imprint, a small press publisher. He is the writer and director of the feature films ‘Strange Factories’ and ‘Armageddon Gospels’ which is due to be released in 2018.

There are six monthly sessions in the sequence of workshops, running from April to September. Each session takes place on the first Monday of the month from 7pm – 9pm. The price for all six sessions is £60.

Open to writers of all ages 18+ working in all formats and mediums. Spaces are limited. Places cost £60 for the sequence of six sessions running from April to September and include refreshments.

This year writers will also have the opportunity to take part in a season of literary events taking place at Hitchin Lavender in June. This will offer members of Chapter One a valuable opportunity to share work and network.

Price includes refreshments: Tea and Coffee.
